Create a modern React project using Vite, write components, manage state with hooks, and understand the project structure. Perfect for absolute beginners.
October 8, 2026 Β· 12 min read Β· Web Development Β· Beginner
React remains one of the most popular libraries for building user interfaces. In this tutorial you will create a complete starter project using Vite, write components, use hooks, and understand the project structure.
What you will build: A simple interactive counter app that demonstrates components, state, and event handling.
1. Prerequisites
Node.js 18 or newer β Check with node -v
A code editor β VS Code recommended
Basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript
2. Create the Project with Vite
npm create vite@latest my-react-app -- --template react
cd my-react-app
npm install
npm run dev
Open the URL shown (usually http://localhost:5173). You should see the default React page.
Success: If the page loads and the counter works, your setup is correct.
useState returns the current value and a setter function. Calling the setter re-renders the component. Never assign state directly.
Rule: Always use the setter (e.g. setCount) so React knows something changed.
6. Next Steps
Split UI into smaller components
Learn useEffect for side effects
Add React Router for multiple pages
Run npm run build and deploy to Netlify or Vercel
You now have a working React foundation.

Python Automation Scripts That Save Hours
October 5, 2026 Β· 9 min read Β· Python
Python is excellent for automating everyday tasks. Below are three practical scripts plus safety habits.
Safety first: Always test on a copy of your files first.
1. Batch Rename Files
import os
folder = r"C:\Users\YourName\Documents\photos"
prefix = "vacation_"
files = [f for f in os.listdir(folder) if os.path.isfile(os.path.join(folder, f))]
files.sort()
for i, filename in enumerate(files, start=1):
ext = os.path.splitext(filename)[1]
new_name = f"{prefix}{i:03d}{ext}"
os.rename(os.path.join(folder, filename), os.path.join(folder, new_name))
print(f"Renamed: {filename} β {new_name}")
print("Done!")
2. Simple Web Scraper
pip install requests beautifulsoup4
import requests
from bs4 import BeautifulSoup
url = "https://example.com"
response = requests.get(url, timeout=10)
soup = BeautifulSoup(response.text, "html.parser")
for heading in soup.find_all(["h1", "h2", "h3"]):
print(heading.get_text(strip=True))
Respect websites: Do not overload servers. Prefer official APIs when available.
3. Send an Email
import smtplib
from email.message import EmailMessage
msg = EmailMessage()
msg["Subject"] = "Automated report"
msg["From"] = "you@gmail.com"
msg["To"] = "friend@example.com"
msg.set_content("Hello from a Python script.")
with smtplib.SMTP_SSL("smtp.gmail.com", 465) as smtp:
smtp.login("you@gmail.com", "your-app-password")
smtp.send_message(msg)
print("Email sent!")
Never hard-code passwords in scripts you share. Use environment variables.
Good Habits
Test on copies of data first
Add print statements for visibility
Use try/except around risky operations
Keep scripts small and focused
